Why one should check the weather for the day

First of all, I knew that there was a chance for rain today.  I just didn't look any further than that...and I last checked on Sunday.  Mea culpa.

My boyfriend's niece is turning two, and there's a small party for her tomorrow.  She needs a present, so I dashed over to Toys-R-Us this morning to see what they had.  Note: it is HARD to shop for the kid who quite possibly has everything.  Not finding anything and deciding to drag Steve back there this afternoon, I popped into Nordstrom Rack for hopefully a new skirt.  Found one too, I love the Rack.  But when I left it was pouring rain out and gusting.  Frankly, I'm surprised that I didn't get any bruises from how hard that rain was pelting me.  Run home, get changed into something dry, and then finally it's time for orientation.

Really, is it that hard to differentiate between "Oh, I'm transferring in from a local community college and starting nursing classes this spring if I'm lucky" and "oh, I'm bringing in a few credits from a different school but haven't been in a real class setting for years" transfer students?  Almost everybody I talked to was "oh, I'm taking XYZ, yeah, I'm from SLCC."  ONE guy wasn't, although I didn't talk to everybody.  The dean said "hi, here are the faculty, now split up into two groups and go check out the classrooms and the labs."  I got more information from one of the professors who was finally able to answer my question about critical care and Westminster.  It was as I thought, there aren't any specific classes for it.  However, he said that if you pulled straight As in the Med-Surg classes, you could get a placement in an ICU as part of the capstone.  I also know what my goals are for the next four years...

After that, we were herded off to learn about the library options and to learn the whole "this is how you sign in..." thing from some of the techy folks there.  I did that a couple months ago, so they said "why are you still sitting around here!  Go get your ID and whatever else you have to do!"  I liked not having the long line to wait for my ID, I will admit.  After that, it was confirming that the college didn't want any more money from me, and then off to home.

I think that I was just distressed at the orientation overall.  I was, for one, hoping for a little bit more about the program, possibly some information about opportunities on-campus for the nursing and pre-nursing students and some information for us old folks who haven't been in school for these past two years plus.  There was a sheet in the folder titled "for the adult learner" but it just was a list of offices on campus.

Next time: Shameless attempts to earn some money while on campus.
